What space does filmmaking occupy during times of crisis? What are the stories waiting to be told? In what ways has the Tibetan diaspora experienced the past two years? What are the changes that have occured and influenced our lives in recent times? The Covid-19 pandemic has turned the entire world upside down over the last two years. Storytelling can be a wonderful medium for healing. And this year we are thrilled to bring back the Short Film Competition – to see, hear and experience new stories from you!
We would like to invite you to take part in our Short Film Competition for the Tibet Film Festival 2022. Through the Short Film Competition we aim to encourage young Tibetan filmmakers in developing an independent Tibetan film language beyond conventional narratives.
Keeping in mind the difficulties of filmmaking through these demanding times, we have decided to broaden the category of “short film” and update the guidelines for this year’s competition.
It doesn't matter if you've made a short film before or if this is your first. We would like to encourage all of you to grab a camera and tell us a story that you would like to present.
We are looking forward to receiving your creative films!

About
The Short Film Competition was launched in 2010. Since then, the competition has become an integral part of Tibet Film Festival, providing a platform for Tibetans to show their talent. With varying themes each year, we have been able to showcase a wide range of work from young Tibetan filmmakers spread across the Tibetan diaspora from four different continents.
His Eminence the 17th Karmapa has been a strong supporter of Tibet Film Festival. During a fundraiser meeting in the lead up to Tibet Film Festival 2012, we had the great honour and privilege to show some of the films to His Eminence the 17th Karmapa. In an audience with TFF-India Organising Team in 2013 he extended his encouragement, support, and appreciation for this initiative
The Yak Prize designed by Thubten Purang
Award and Prize Money
The Yak Price was awarded for the first time in 2014. The prize was designed and sponsored by Thubten Purang, a Tibetan artist living in Switzerland.
Jury Award: 1000 USD
Audience Award: 500 USD
In addition, the audience in Zurich and Dharamsala will decide who will receive the respective audience award.

The Jury
There is a new jury every year, that consists of filmmakers and film enthusiasts. Jury members from previous years were, among others, Kalsang Rinchen, Pema Shitsetsang, Alice Grünfelder and Yangzom Brauen.
